Overlanding Essentials: Die Pro-Hängematte (ENG)

When you are living the van life day in and day out (or maybe 'truck life', like us), you will realize what you are missing from your physical home. Fortunately, we do not miss too many creature comforts, but there is one thing for sure: a cozy place to relax when you come home, like a couch or a sofa.

Because we can't fit a couch or sofa in our truck and because we don't want to lounge where we sleep - we have the Sea to Summit Pro Hammock. This hammock truly is one of the best pieces of gear in our kit - it is a perfect way to relax after a long day overlanding.

In the last 18 months we have overlanded approximately 75,000 km (roughly 46,602 miles) within North America. We were on the move almost every day over the past year and a half - by the end of each day, all we wanted to do was relax. After a long day in our truck we did not want to have to spend 30 minutes setting up a table and chairs, we wanted a way that we could relax outside with a quick and easy set up. Our Sea to Summit Pro Hammock and Hammock Bug Net were the perfect solution.

Our favorite feature of this hammock is that it fits both of us and sometimes even one of our dogs! The mosquito net is packable and easy to transport as well as quick to set up. This is really the best way to relax after a long day driving. We are enjoying our boondocking spots now even more. On colder evenings we simply add our Basecamp and Latitude sleeping bags and enjoy the stars outside.

Clearly, we fully endorse this hammock for anyone who overlands or is living the van life. The hammock, suspension straps and bug net all pack down to an incredibly small size and are all very light weight. So much so that when our friends offer up a bed in their homes, we kindly say: "Thanks, but we are fine hanging out next to our truck in our hammock."
