Frequently Asked questions

What type/material of cooking utensils can be used with the Frontier hard-anodised aluminum cookware? Is the cookware safe to use if scratched?

Spatulas made of nylon are best for use with ceramic non-stick finishes; metal utensils can introduce micro-scratches that reduce the non-stick effect. Ceramic
coatings are safe to use if they have visible scratches.

Is ceramic-coated aluminum cookware safer than non-coated aluminum?

For those with health concerns, ceramic-coated aluminum is preferable to uncoated
aluminum. Those Frontier cookware items that do not have a ceramic coating are
hard anodized to prevent a consumer coming into contact with aluminum.

Is it safe to cook acidic foods in the Frontier hard-anodised aluminum camp cookware?

The interior of the rigid Frontier pots has a ceramic non-stick coating; the
collapsible pot and kettle are hard anodized. Acidic foods (which have a
relatively low level of acidity) will not come into contact with the aluminum;
it is perfectly safe to cook with them.

What size pot for 1 or 2 person ultralight backpacking?

The 1.3L pot is fine for 2-person ultralight meals (especially if you keep cooked
ingredients warm in a bowl set in a larger bowl of very hot water while others
are cooking). If you want a simpler cooking experience, go for the 2L version.

What are the minimum cook set items I need for ultralight backpacking?

A 1.3L pot or 1.1L kettle, a spork and a (collapsible) cup can produce some great
meals with a little ingenuity. Our team would insist on adding the pour-over
filter…

Can the Frontier hard-anodised aluminum camp cookware be used over an open flame/campfire?

The latch release of the Click Safe handle is made of nylon, and would be damaged
by being used over an open fire. We would strongly advise against use of this
kind.

What's the best way to clean hard-anodised cook sets while camping?

The ceramic non-stick coating of rigid Frontier pots should prevent food being
burned on to the surface; soaking the pots should remove most residue. Wash in
water/biodegradable soap, dry thoroughly and store in a critter-proof location.
